A LIFELONG, RURAL ARIZONAN
Born in Springerville, Apache County, Gary Kiehne is an Arizona cattleman and small business owner who shares our rural values and deep appreciation for our great state and lands.
A husband, father and grandfather, Gary knows that we live in the greatest nation in history, but he is deeply concerned about the future of our state and country.
Like so many of us, Gary believes it is critical we rein in Washington’s out of control spending, secure our borders, and shrink the size and influence of the federal government so we can put more decision-making back in the hands of Arizonans.
LOCAL BUSINESS LEADER & JOB CREATOR
Gary has spent his life in the private sector, creating jobs and growing his small businesses in the oil, ranching, construction, trucking, real estate and hotel industries. He knows firsthand what it takes to run a business while facing the bureaucratic red tape driven by Washington politicians – red tape that hinders our ability to grow the economy and create jobs.
Dedicated to our local communities, Gary has worked hard to boost tourism, job creation and economic growth in rural Arizona. He is a fourth generation rancher on private and national forest lands and an active member of the Arizona business community. Gary belongs to several local business associations, including the Round Valley Chamber, the Flagstaff Chamber, the Greenlee County Chamber, the Heber-Overgaard Chamber of Commerce, the Arizona Hotel and Lodging Association, The Arizona Farm Bureau, American Association of Hotel Owners, Arizona Cattle Growers and the Permian Basin Landmen’s Association.
STANDING UP FOR OUR VALUES
Gary is committed to using his skills realized through successes in small business to make a difference on behalf of Arizona’s First Congressional District through common sense solutions.
Gary believes we need to encourage economic growth by increasing access to financial resources for entrepreneurs and job creators, while cutting spending and simplifying our tax code.
He supports solutions to immediately secure the border and stop the influx of crime, like employing an all-of- the-above border management strategy, utilizing technology and patrolling on the ground and in the air.
A business owner in the oil and gas industry, Gary understands the role that energy has on the future of America’s economy and security. He supports energy policies that will allow for more oil and natural gas drilling on Federal lands and the outer continental shelf, build the Keystone XL Pipeline, and encourage the development of clean energy sources like wind, solar and hydropower.
Gary is a graduate of New Mexico State University with a Bachelors of Science in Agriculture. Today he manages three family-owned hotels in eastern Arizona and continues to work in the oil and gas industry and in his family’s farming and ranching operations.
Gary and his wife Julie have three children, Mendy, Holly, and Chance, and three grandchildren, Cole, Maddy, and Londyn. A lifelong roper, Gary is a member of the United States Team Roping Association and the World Series of Team Roping. As a member of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association, he has traveled throughout the western United States winning and placing at numerous rodeos and roping events, including the Cheyenne Frontier Days, The Ben Johnson Memorial and the World Series Finals in Las Vegas.
An avid outdoorsman, Gary is a lifelong member of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and belongs to the National Rifle Association. Also a pilot, Gary belongs to the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association.
